The study gives a general outlook on the problems which face the fortification walls of Mycenae in relation to their present condition for preservation. The long-term experience of planning and executing conservation works in Mycenaean Tiryns and in similar preservation projects are respected for establishing guidelines. The study shows some typical examples of main construction damages and maintenance problems, addresses preparational steps to be undertaken for conservation concepts, describes methods and technologies for stabilization and conservation works, establishes the equipment and machines necessary for execution and names the personnel staff and its need of specially skilled handicrafts and workmen. The study is engaged for the stabilization and conservation treatment of the fortification walls from south-east to north-east, encircling about 670 m in length. Because of its very damaged condition and extremely difficult accessibility, the eastern part of the citadel is out of question for consideration at this moment. Objectives of the study program are also to improve the system and conditions of pathways for visitors and to change the appearance of some wall sections for a better understanding of its original construction.
