Architectural Competition for the Archeological Site of Goebekli Tepe
Study Group Klessing/Steiner, Ingenieurgruppe Bauen

In the 90ies of the last century the archaeological complex of Goebekli Tepe had been discovered and some main structures of its remains had been excavated. In the history of human kind this unique compound of obvious cultural function should be scheduled in the 9th or 10th millennium BC, so it seems to be the first known example of structural stone building-arrangement. To protect the sensible remains against climatical erosion and vandalism the DAI called for a competition of architects, competent in the heritage branch, to design a shelter, which should function for preservation as well for security. Our study group developed a conception of a so-called topographical wave, that means a protection cover, which is planted and follows in its shape the typical curved landscape. By this kind of design solution a disturbing impact in the rural landscape by a big hall-construction could be avoided.
