Chamaa is located close to the border to Israel in the deep south of Lebanon and consists of a fortified village and a citadel. The preserved structures of the citadel date back mainly to the Ottoman Period, however showing traces of earlier periods. The village is partly still inhabited. In the Lebanese-Israelian Conflict of 2006 the historic ensemble suffered vast damages. The projects main tasks were the rehabilitation of the historic structures of the citadel and the defensive wall of the fortified village together with the revitalization of the traditional manufacture in the village. The concept was developed by a planning team of experts of different required disciplines.

Works have been executed since 2017 and are still ongoing.
