Already in the early decades of the twentieth century substantial excavations had been undertaken in the quarter of Roman villas at the hillside of Thugga adjacent to the Bath of Cyclops including the Maison du Trifolium. Parallel first conservation measures took already place. In the nineties the Archaeologic Institute of the University of Freiburg started a new excavation campaign. Because of an urgent need for structural maintenance in construction damages systematic conservation studies had been undertaken to define the basics for safeguarding of the monument. Under supervision of our office different preservation campaigns took place in the following from end of the nineties until today.
