Mainz Roman Theatre

Recent excavations in the area south of the railway station „Römisches Theater“ brought to light the foundations of a large roman theatre, especially the remaining semicircle of walls and pillar rows of the Cavea. Wall relics of a Parados with traces of vaults are preserved on the western side. The remains represent one of the largest roman theaters north of the alpes. Beside its archeological significance the ruin is located at a central urban space with high potential. Discussions about the optimal concept for preservation and presentation of the monument are not yet finished. Beside model conservation we supported the decision making by preparing concept studies and condensing the state of scientific research in a theoretical reconstruction.
