Structural Safeguarding

The structural safeguarding and conservation measures were urgent due to the ongoing decay of the bath ruins. As an effect of those measures, also the city layout was made more comprehensible for the visitors.

The site of the thermal bath was fully cleared and the structure itself partly excavated in order to prepare the consolidation measures. Parts which were in danger of collapse were structurally safeguarded, all remaining walls were restored. The site of the ruin was improved by adapted landscaping measures. The measures had the general objective to provide safe access for visitors and  to present the important feature of the Roman Bath in an attractive and comprehensible way. The project also pursued the training of the mainly untrained workers with regard to technical restoration abilities. Consequently, young Turkish architects in the field of preservation could be further trained with integration in the conceptional work and the construction supervision.
