The excavation on the eastside above the Roman Forum of Ancient Simitthus already began in the 1970ies. After some years of interruption, new digging activities targeted to clear up more Numidian settlement structures in very deep trenches. Because of the unstable digging profiles a consolidation work of the deep trenches could not be undertaken, only parts of a Numidian Channel modification remained visible after consolidation measurements of the surrounding Roman building relics. Different examples of built Roman and Byzantine history are  to be seen: Parts of a large Peristyl Villa, later apsis units partly decorated with a socle of marble stones and inside a deep lime kiln burner. On the upper level the relics of a medieval house could be identified. The long historic processes of the formation of the settlements in the urban area of Simithus becomes evident in combination with the nearby relics of the Numidian Necropolis on the Roman Forum.
